S'more of Life
I love s'mores. I love the process of making them - the planning, the prelude sampling of dry marshmallows and cold chocolate, a crackling tender to start an all night camp fire and the sound of friends gathering to talk and drink in life. A whittled green sapling with marshmallows threaded on the end, held over coals, patiently turning them into perfect golden brown, slippery soft around the outside but still hard against the wood, pulled off in a deft stroke, sandwiched between chocolate and graham cracker, one sticky, mess of sugary white goodness. Eating s'mores takes serious concentration, typically punctuated with giggles and goo. I love that it's hard to be dignified with marshmallow running down your arm and chocolate lips. I love that somewhere in the process, people bond. Friendships form, problem solving happens, we know the ending... a tasty reward. I'm going to write about the s'mores of life and I hope to meet new friends along the way.
