Using BB Code PDF Print E-mail
BB code is used in place of HTML code to allow users to add text decorations and insert other elements such as images and URLs without necessarily knowing HTML. BB stand for bulletin board, which is what this code set was originally developed for.

Text between a specific opening and closing tag will display the attribute specified by that tag. For example the following code specifies that the intervening text will appear as bold:

[b]Hello! How are you[/b]
Result: Hello! How are you

The private messaging and comment systems on Open2it allow members to use a number of BB code options. Many options are available as buttons that insert the specific code element. The private messaging system functions a bit differently from the comment system.

In the private messaging system, the initial enclosing tag is added using the button. The button then displays a backslash, indicating that the closing code will be inserted when the button is again clicked. This system allows the user to click the button to insert the opening tag, type the text, then close the tag by clicking the same button again. Of course, one can also type in the code.

Available options are:

Bold: [b]text[/b]
Italicized: [i]text[/i]
Underlined: [u]text[/u]
Red: [color=#ff4040]text[/color]
Green: [color=#40ff40]text[/color]
Blue: [color=#4040ff]text[/color]
Small: [size=1]text[/size]
Medium: [size=2]text[/size]
Large: [size=3]text[/size]
Larger: [size=4]text[/size]

Web address: [url]http://open2it.com[/url]

or

Named link: [url=http://www.open2it.com]Open2it[/url]

You can also combine tags as illustrated in the following example:

Combined tags:
[size=4][url=http://open2it.com]Open2it[/url][/size]

The results for these tags are shown to the right in the order listed above.

Text color can be changed by editing the hexadecimal color code or by entering code as follows:

[color=black]Example[/color] = Example
[color=brown]Example[/color] = Example
[color=maroon]Example[/color] =Example
[color=red]Example[/color] = Example
[color=orange]Example[/color] = Example
[color=yellow]Example[/color] = Example
[color=olive]Example[/color] = Example
[color=lime]Example[/color] = Example
[color=green]Example[/color] = Example
[color=teal]Example[/color] = Example
[color=aqua]Example[/color] = Example
[color=blue]Example[/color] = Example
[color=navy]Example[/color] = Example
[color=purple]Example[/color] = Example
[color=fuchsia]Example[/color] = Example
[color=gray]Example[/color] = Example
[color=silver]Example[/color] = Example
[color=white]Example[/color] = Example text

The comment system displays different BB code button options, but it allows all BB codes, despite not providing buttons for some of them. For example you can add a bullet list using the following code:

[list]
[*]One
[*]Two
[*]Three
[/list]

Which appears as:
  • One
  • Two
  • Three
The list of additional (tested) BB codes (not already listed above) for the comment system is as follows:
  1. Strike-through: [s]text[/s] (comment system provides a button)
  2. Quote: [quote]I have a dream. . .[/quote] (comment system provides a button)
  3. Additional font size option: [size=20]size 20px[/size] (20 pixels tall)
  4. Font: [font=arial]text[/font] (supported fonts below)
  • [font=Arial]Example[/font] = Example
  • [font=Century]Example[/font] = Example
  • [font=Fixed Sys]Example[/font] = Example
  • [font=Georgia]Example[/font] = Example
  • [font=Verdana]Example[/font] = Example
