Extended Breast Feeding E-mail
(3 Votes)
Most modern societies frown on breast feeding of older children—anything past the age of three is generally considered aberrant—but some maverick mothers insist that there is nothing wrong with extended breast feeding. Recently, a woman in the United States was convicted of child abuse for breast feeding her 10-year-old. Despite the fact that there are no long-term data on the mental health of children (or on their mothers for that matter) who have breast fed extensively, many people perceive a detrimental effect. In this video, a British mother talks about breast feeding her daughters, one of them 8-years-old.  Be sure to comment below to let others know what you think. Breast Feeding

Seems a bit over the top, but to each his own. No question that studies have shown that babies do better starting with breast feeding. Too bad that our society is so up tight about it. I will say, I think the Mother here needs it more for some type of personal reassurance than the children do. Can't imagine it being a convenience any longer or any benfit to the child.

Needy Feeding

I would take sxe60's thought a step further to suggest that mothers in industrialized countries who extend breast feeding past age 3 suffer from some sort of psychopathology, perhaps borderline personality disorder or some other disorder centered around emotional emptiness and perceived need.

This topic is long enough that I decided to post it to my blog. Read more. . .
